Hey, my name is Richard Battle. I grew up in North Austin near the Braker/Rundberg area. It's nice in most parts of the neighborhood, even if some parts are a little rugged by Austin standards. By this I mean crime, homelessness and drug users. I'm still proud to have grown up here though. People are friendly and laid back, just like every other part of Austin. Unaffordable housing have chased me to live in South Round Rock now, so that's where I'm driving out of every day.
I became a locksmith in 2007 after seeing an ad in the newspaper offering free locksmith training. It was a science I was immediately interested in, and extremely challenging. There are literally thousands of different lock brands and types, with most having a different patented way to disassemble and rekey.
Quitting locksmithing has crossed my mind multiple times. Long hours, unpickable locks and stripped screws tested my patience, but I stuck it out. I will say I'm proud of myself for still being part of this proud profession. Locksmiths have been around for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans had locks and keys, although I'm not sure if their locksmiths charged as much as modern ones..
After spending years working for other companies, I've decided to control my own destiny and start ASAP Locksmith in 2013. I now realize just how tough it is to run a business, doing all the marketing, accounting, and of course driving out to the customers to do the locksmith work.
With that being said, I really do appreciate EVERY call I get. I have to work hard to get those calls, and keep you guys happy after the fact. But I love it and will continue to work hard in this profession!
